Maths Workshop at G.D.Goenka Public School, Paschim Vihar

The workshop held at G.D.Goenka Public School, Paschim Vihar  on 30th of August was conducted by Mr. Jose Paul, Ex-Director, Educational Planning Group,St.Xavier’s School,Delhi.

The programme commenced with the a warm welcome extended by the Principal, the Headmistress and other teachers, followed by the traditional ceremony of lighting the lamp.

The workshop was actually a Teacher Training Programme meant for the teachers of G.D.Goenka Franchise schools across the city and the NCR.

Mr.Paul covered almost all the important concepts in NCERT Syllabus from class VI to class X.

The following are the main features of the workshop.

  • The participants were motivated to be great teachers.

  • To encourage students appreciate Maths around them

  • To make students visualise the situation through figures, pictures etc.,

  • To teach Fractions, Decimals and Percentage by correlating them and not as single entities.

  • Amazing techniques of comparing fractions using simple examples.

  • To make the students realize how constructing successive perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors lead to 3-Dimensional figures and make Geometry interesting for them.

  • Place Values including those after the decimal point was thoroughly dealt in the workshop.

  • Screening of few video’s that highlighted the relationship between Maths and Music.

  • The ways and means of splitting the middle term and thereby solving quadtratic equations were very well drafted in the Hand-outs distributed.

  • The kind of drilling suggested, is aimed at creating a solid foundation on Quadtratic Polynomials that occupy a sound position in the Syllabus from class IX though class XII

  • To develop the habit of observing patterns in any given information, among the students.

  • Most importantly the art of paper folding and its significance in finding the In-Centre, Circumcentre and orthocentre of Trianles was very much illustrative.

  • Very well demonstrated that a teacher by following these guidelines will be covering all the skills required to solve PSA, OTBA and Math Lab.

In a Nutshell, the workshop was completely engaging the participants for about 5 hours with a short break in between.

The programme came to an end with taking group photographs, getting participation certificates and receiving momentoes followed by the vote of thanks extended by them to all.

 The delicious lunch served and the hospitality showered stands ever in the memory.
