G.D.GOENKA PUBLIC SCHOOOL, VASANT KUNJ, has recently organised a Workshop for Mathematics Teachers of franchise schools and its own.
About 25 teachers, including 18 from different franchise schools attended the workshop.
The Workshop was conducted by Ms. Rashmi Kathuria, on “Integrating technology in classroom teaching of Mathematics”. Ms. Kathuria was conferred with National Best E-Teacher Award in 2007, by our former President Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam followed by National ICT Award by the current President of India Shri.Pranab Mukherjee.
The Workshop commenced with a brief introduction about Ms.Rashmi Kathuria by Mr.S.K.Bansal, the Head of the Department of Mathematics followed by a wonderful note by Ms.Kathuria on how to ‘RISE’ and evolve as the best teacher during the course of one’s career as a Teacher.
The participants were encouraged to create a joyful learning environment, to explore not only to learn but also to share their ideas on a common platform.
The tips given on
Creating Formative Assessments
reducing common errors committed by students
finding the Area of any irregular polygon using Euler’s Formula and GeoBoard,
were quite innovative and sounded very effective.
The various links provided on Free Math Software like GeoGebra, Mind Mapping, Origami and Mathematics, Sample Worksheet on PSA, Interactive Tools etc., exposed the participant to the world of Modern Technology and its application in Education.
Also, making SNOW-FLAKES using Origami sheets and creating 3-D models of Platonic Solids like Tetrahedron, Icoso hedron, Dodecohedron based on 2-Dimensional Net was very well explained . Teachers who were divided into small groups could do the same comfortably.
The teachers were prompted on the necessity to update themselves with technology so as to be in tune with the students of Modern Times.
For the teachers who were looking forward to set up Math Lab and Sample Math-Lab Activities, the workshop provided them with better ideas.
The workshop lasted for about 3 hours and was quite engaging, interactive and interesting.
Being the Resource Person for CBSE, the various links provided on Math-Lab activities are very much relevant to the Syllabus given by NCERT.
The programme came to an end, with votes of Thanks by Mr. Tariq Habeeb, the senior most Faculty of the Department.
The Teachers were quite happy to go back with the models, inspired to make the students explore the same.
