CITATION CEREMONY AND FAREWELL PARTY for OUTGOING BATCH OF 2016

The Goenkan batch of 2016, was given a warm Farewell hosted by the students of Class XI. The Citation and Farewell party were held simultaneously at The Grand, Vasant Kunj on 30th January, 2016.

The day witnessed all the senior students of the school dressed in beautiful and colourful attire and all set to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with their peer-group. The highlight of the afternoon, was the personality contest wherein twelve titles for the present batch were to be given away.

The programme commenced with the welcome note by the Vice Head Girl – Maahi Kumar, followed by the rendition of a melodious number by the Western Vocal group of class 11.

The ceremonial  lamp of knowledge was lit by the Principal – Mr. Sanjay Yadav, Vice Principal – Ms. Swadesh Kumar,  Ms. Pankaja, Senior Section Incharge – Ms. Prabhjot Butalia and Aakash Gadh, Cultural Secretary from Class 12A.

The students of all sections of Class XII walked up with lit diyas and after placing them on a decorated platform, stepped up on stage to receive mementoes from the Principal, and take blessings from him, the Vice Principal, the Senior Section Incharge and all the teachers who nurtured them and taught them in class XII.        

The Personality Contest which ran into three rounds, was indeed an enjoyable affair. Out of the 15 nominees (boys) and 15 nominees (girls) for the coveted titles of Mr. Goenkan and Miss Goenkan, the introduction Round saw the elimination of a few contestants and for the second round, only 18 contestants(9 boys and 9 girls) could qualify. This round, the prop round showcased the talents of the contestants, who used the props to the best of their creativities, having the audience in splits with the humour and their acting abilities. The six finalists (3 boys and 3 girls), went through a grueling and tough final round where the judges, our Principal, Vice- Principal and Ms. Pankaja asked them a question each. On the basis of their answers and their previous scores, the coveted titles were won by the following students:

  2. Goenkan 2016 –             Muskaan Chhibber

The remaining titles went to the following students of the outgoing batch:

  5. Face of the Year –                Kanishk Abrol

  6. Face of the Year –              Niharika Arora

  7. Gentleman of the Year –      Shaurya Ahuja

  8. Lady of the Year –               Harsimran Kaur

  9. Goenkan Style Icon –          Drumil Zaveri

  10. Goenkan Style Icon –          Sanah Mehta

For the fun and entertainment of the senior students the class of XI had prepared dance performances, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. The foot tapping music played by the DJ along with the variety of sumptuous food laid out by the catering department of The Grand, were treats enjoyed and relished by all.

Senior Inter-House Debate

The 3rd round of the Inter-House Debate 2015-16 was held on 27th January 2016 in the auditorium.  The team of Tagore House competed with the team of Teresa House and the team of V.K. House competed with R.K. House.

The debate had two teams each – proposition and the opposition comprising three members each.  In this format, the Principal Speaker of the proposition opens the debate and introduces the argument.  He/She speaks for three minutes explaining the point of view of the team.  The second speaker of the proposition and opposition  follow to further the argument.  The third speaker of each team then refutes the opposing teams arguments.  Finally, the Principal Speakers sum up the teams stand and speak for 2 minutes each.  

The participants are judged on diction, content, presentation and argument.

The judges for the debate were Mrs. Prabhjot Butalia, Mrs. Rohina Shah and Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur.

The details of the debate are as follows:

 1. The End is more Important Than the Means.

Tagore House was represented by Ved Rajgarhia, Akansha Gadh and Kartika Ahuja.  They spoke for the motion.  The opposition, Teresa House, comprised Shivangi Anand, Ahana Kumar and Sakhi Thirani.

Result: Best Speaker: Shivangi Anand

Best Team: Tie

     2. Life cannot be Enjoyed without Plenty of Money.

R.K. House spoke for the motion and was represented by Maahi S. Kumar, Devansh Madhok and Zoya S. Kumar.  R.K. House, the opposition, was represented by Dikshita Khullar, Nishtha Jindal and Aryan Dhingra.

Best Team: V.K. House
