Independence Day was celebrated with much nationalistic fervor in G.D.Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj, on August 12, 2016. The special assembly commenced with hoisting of the national flag by Principal, Mr Sanjay Yadav. Singing of National Anthem by the staff and students in unison evoked the deepest nationalistic feelings in one and all. As a symbolic gesture of freedom of the country from the clutches of British rule seventy years ago, colourful balloons were released in the sky. The mainstay of the function was an enthralling talk by Ms Meeru Pande of English Department. The talk was followed by a patriotic song and dance presentations by the children of classes 3, 4 and 5, beautifully depicting the history of struggle, the efforts of freedom fighters, the challenges faced and the arduous route to achieve independence.

The Principal addressed the children exhorting them to contribute in nation building in their own small ways. The special assembly culminated with the children repeating after Vice Principal, Mrs Swadesh Kumar, the chant of Jai Hind.
